Seven Day: Oman Spotlight
Overview
When you have seven days to spend in Oman let us show just how incredible this land and its people are. You will be amazed at the diversity of the landscape and its cities and pleasantly surprised to learn that the Omanis are some of the most welcoming people you will ever meet. Remember this is only a recommended or sample itinerary, so feel free to share your thoughts with us and we will create the ideal tour for you.
| Day One: Arrive Muscat Arrival at the Muscat International Airport with a "meet and greet" at the airport by our representative. (Most flights from North America arrive in the evening. If you have an earlier arrival we will be pleased to plan a more comprehensive day.) |
Day Two: Muscat - Wadi Shab - Sur Muscat - Wadi Shab - Sur (4WD): We start our day with a visit to the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque where we will visit this extraordinary example of unique Islamic architecture. After our visit we will depart in our 4WD and head to the coastal town of Quriyat, famous for its beautiful beaches. We will also stop at Oman's famous 'Sinkhole,' where a part of the mountain has collapsed and filled with seawater. | |
| Day Three: Sur - Nizwa Full day Sur - Nizwa (4WD): This morning, we drive to Wadi Bani Khaled, one of Oman's most beautiful wadis (dry river bed), famous for its lush green oases, water pools and deep canyons. We conitnue on to the Wahiba desert with its rolling red sand dunes for an exciting 4WD dune drive. Driving on to the village of Mudairib we will see its traditional watchtowers before continuing to Ibra where we will visit this once propsperous area and its 19th century manisons. |
Day Four: Nizwa Full Day Nizwa Sightseeing: After visiting Nizwa's impressive 17th century fort we will visit the Nizwa souk, famous for its authentic Bedouin silver jewellery. Our drive continues via Tanuf and Bahla to Jabreen to visit one of Oman's most beautiful forts, famous for its wall and ceiling murals. | |
| Day Five: Nakhl - Rustaq - Muscat Full Day Nakhl and Rustaq Sightseeing: We start with a spectacular drive through the Hajar Mountains via the oases of Birkat Al Mauz and Fanjah. Our first stop will be in Barka to see the fish market and souk as well as visit Bait Na'am, a fortified house where the Imams used to overnight during their journeys to the interior. We continue to the oasis of Nakhl to visit its famous fort and stroll around the natural warm springs of Thowarah. Our tour continues along picturesque wadis (dry river beds) before reaching Rustaq for a stop at the Rustaq Fort. Our final excursion for the day will be at Al Hazm where we visit its impressive fort. |
Day Six: Muscat Morning Muscat Sightseeing: We will begin in Muscat's picturesque Old Town where we will stroll around the Portuguese forts, Jalali, Mirani and Qasr Al Alam, as well as the Palace of HM Sultan Qaboos. Our next stop is the Bait Al Zubair Museum with its wealth of information and exhibits about the country's culture, tradition and heritage. We drive on to Muttrah, a delightful quarter of Muscat, where we visit the fish market, stroll along the Corniche (to admire the beautiful merchant houses) and experience shopping in its busy and world famous souk. Muttrah's souk provides a wonderful shopping experience and is well known for its silver-craft shops, perfumes, souvenirs and much more. | |
