Seven Day: Oman Off Road

Day One: Arrive Muscat

Arrival at the Muscat International Airport with a "meet and greet" at the airport by our representative. (Most flights from North America arrive in the evening. If you have an earlier arrival we will be pleased to plan a more comprehensive day.)

Transfer to Hotel and check-in.

Overnight in Muscat.

Day Two: Muscat - Nizwa - Jebel Shams

Muscat - Nizwa - Jebel Shams (4WD): Our tour begins by driving through the beautiful embassy quarter of Muscat en route to the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque where we will visit this extraordinary example of unique Islamic architecture. Next we head to Nizwa via an incredible drive through the fascinating Hajar Mountains and the oases of Fanjah and Birkat Al Mauz. In Nizwa we will visit the famous 17th century fort and the souk with its excellent Bedouin jewellery. On our way to Jebel Shams ‘Mountain of Sun', we will stop in Misfah, a village seemingly hewn out of rock. From a height of nearly 10,000 feet, you will have an outstanding view deep into the ‘Grand Canyon of Oman.' Our next stop will be in the picturesque town of Al Hamra, one of the last loam villages in Oman.

Day Three: Ibra - Wadi Bani Khalid - Desert Camp

We head out in our 4WD vehicle through the picturesque Hajar Mountains and the town of Ibra until we arrive at Wadi Bani Khalid one of Oman's most beautiful wadis (dry river bed) famous for its lush green oases, water pools and deep canyons. After enjoying our time at the wadi we head to the Wahiba desert for an exciting dune drive where we will also visit a camel camp and have an unforgettable experience learning about the Bedouins way of life.

Day Four: Mudairib - Sur

Heading out we will drive towards Sur and the village of Mudairib to see its traditional watchtowers.

After an early dinner we will visit the the protected "turtle beach" at Ras Al Junayz, where we will go on a guided walk and if lucky we will witness turtles laying or hatching eggs. This area is protected and is known for unusually high nesting activity all year round.

Day Five: Sur - Wadi Shab - Muscat

Full Day Tour Sur - Wadi Shab - Muscat (4WD): We start this day with a drive through Sur to visit the ancient dhow yard, where traditional wooden ships are built using the simplest of tools as they have been for hundreds of year. We will stop at the archaeological site of Bibi Myriam at Qalhat before continuing on to Tiwi and its picturesque Wadi Shab, where we will enjoy a delicious picnic lunch. We continue on the off road track for a stop at Oman's famous ‘Sinkhole' where part of a mountain has collapsed and filled with Seawater. Next we proceed to Quriyat to enjoy its beautiful beautiful beaches before continuing on to Muscat.

Day Six: Rustaq - Muscat

Morning Rustaq Sightseeing followed by Muscat Sightseeing: This morning we drive to Bait Na'am, a fortified house where the Imams used to overnight during their journeys to Oman's interior. From Barka our drive continues along the famous Batinah plain, the main agricultural area of Oman and then on to Al Hazm where we visit its impressive fort before continuing on to the Rustaq Fort. Before returning to Muscat we visit the Nakhl oasis and fort and the the natural warm springs of Thowarah.

Lunch at a local restaurant.

Muscat Sightseeing: We will begin in Muscat's picturesque Old Town where we will stroll around the Portuguese forts, Jalali, Mirani and Qasr Al Alam, as well as the Palace of HM Sultan Qaboos. Our next stop is the Bait Al Zubair Museum with its wealth of information and exhibits about the country's culture, tradition and heritage. We drive on to Muttrah, a delightful quarter of Muscat, where we visit the fish market, stroll along the Corniche (to admire the beautiful merchant houses) and experience shopping in its busy and world famous souk.

Day Seven: Muscat & Departure

Transfer to the Muscat International Airport for your Departure.

Depending on your departure time enjoy a free day in Muscat to Shop, visit your favorite site or relax by the beach or pool. We will be happy to arrange a day room at your hotel if you have a late evening departure.
